After a spectacular three-month run that saw events being hosted, on the ground and virtually, the 10th edition of the Attakkalari India Biennial is set to bid adieu on March 22 with -scape, a performance that is almost like an ode to the hybrid lives we are leading today.

Featuring Hemabharathy Palani from India and Ryu Suzuki from Japan, the production explores vignettes from the lives of two individuals who have never met before, except through technology. Over a duration of 50-mins, the two individuals chronicle their urge to share their personal memories and experiences of people, objects, places, and events while transcending the constraints of geography and language. Their intimate journals of loss, shifting perspectives, changing values, and snippets of conversations bring out their fears and joys, coalescing segments of time. -scape is a co-production of Japan Foundation (New Delhi) and Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts (Bangalore).

The finale will be held in Bangalore International Centre, the same venue where the festival began, two months ago, on January 7 with the premiere of Sthavara-Jangama. Since then, the Biennial in the past two months has hosted 34 events, collaborated with 200+ artists, and entertained 1500+ audience members worldwide. Centered on the theme of Inspire Bengaluru, the Biennial this time was envisioned as a ‘trans-local community arts engagement initiative’ that sought to bring different communities – dancers, scholars, art and dance enthusiasts, and audiences at large –  together and revive the cultural economy of the city. By bringing the world to Karnataka, a vision made possible with the support of the Karnataka Department of Tourism, the Biennial also succeeded in painting Bengaluru as a cultural destination for international audiences.

And now as the curtains come down, the Biennial, through its grand finale, hopes to leave Bengalureans and netizens with a heartfelt goodbye, until the next edition.
