Grand Mercure Bengaluru at Gopalan Mall takes another step towards driving the sustainability dialogue by launching the Backyard Project. The initiative aims to promote the idea of growing your vegetables by offering free takeaway Mini Grow Kits and Seed balls to all its guests. The hotel has partnered with Sow & Grow an eco-friendly sustainable brand offering ‘Made in India’ DIY Gardening Kits, Plantable Recycled Stationary, Microgreen Kits, and other products.
Currently, the project focuses on easy-to-grow vegetables and herbs like basil, chilly, tomato, and brinjal. The Mini grow kit features a biodegradable pot for the initial phase, a coco coin as a growth medium, and plant seeds. These are suitable plants for the urban garden.
“Conceptually what we are aiming for is quite simple, to promote gardening within our patrons, especially that of utilizing smaller spaces, like kitchen windows and balconies, so that everyone nurtures at least one plant. It is a small step, but together it can be a movement,” says Sachin Maheshwary, General Manager of the hotel.
The hotel also has its terrace garden, where many vegetables like cauliflowers, eggplants, and okra are grown alongside a dedicated patch of microgreens.
