Bengaluru: Sandalwood is abuzz again. After a string of lukewarm box office performances, Kannada cinema is set to bounce back with a film that’s already generating strong buzz—Edagai Apaghaatakke Kaarana. What makes it even more exciting is the collaboration between two of 2024’s most successful producers, Ravichandran AJ of Blink and Rajesh Keelambi of Shaakhahaari.

Diganth Manchale

Directed by debutant Samarth Kadkol and starring the ever-charming Diganth, the film has had its share of delays. But with these powerhouse producers on board, Edagai is ready to hit the big screen. Ravichandran AJ steps in as distributor under his Janani Pictures banner, while Rajesh Keelambi joins as co-producer—his first project since Shaakhahaari.

The decision to back the film wasn’t casual. Both Ravichandran and Rajesh were reportedly blown away by the film’s content. In fact, Rajesh revealed, “After Shaakhahaari, I wasn’t actively looking to collaborate on another project. But Edagai’s content is of such high quality, and I knew it would boost my production value. That’s why I signed on.”

Their involvement also marks a shift in the industry’s current climate, where uncertainty has kept many from investing in theatrical releases. Rajesh and Ravichandran’s decision to support Edagai shows a growing confidence in strong storytelling and indie voices.

Diganth, known for his lover-boy roles, will be seen in a dramatically different character in this film. He is joined by Nidhi Subbaiah and Dhanu Harsha in the lead roles. The film has already sparked curiosity with its teaser and posters, showcasing a tone and style that feels fresh for the Kannada screen.

Samarth Kadkol, who not only directed the film but also handled its production during the early phase, expressed his joy: “It’s overwhelming to have two successful producers backing my very first film. Blink and Shaakhahaari continue to be talked about, and now their producers are supporting Edagai. It’s a huge vote of confidence.”

Ravichandran AJ added, “In the past six months, I’ve watched many Kannada films, and Edagai stands out. It’s one of the best I’ve seen. Under Janani Pictures, we’ve distributed critically acclaimed films like BTS, *Nodidavaru Yenantaare, and Anamadhyeya Ashok Kumar. I believe Edagai will be a full-fledged success in 2025.”

With the promise of strong content, powerful performances, and experienced backing, Edagai Apaghaatakke Kaarana looks poised to breathe new life into Kannada cinema. Watch out for this one—it might just be the comeback film the industry has been waiting for.
