UnboxingBLR’s special edition of The Music Scene will bring live busking to Cubbon Bandstand on November 1, with free entry for all.
A Sunday morning in Cubbon Park usually comes with its own soundtrack: birdsong, footsteps and conversations beneath the trees. On November 1, live music will join that familiar rhythm as UnboxingBLR presents a special Karnataka Rajyotsava edition of Busking at Cubbon Bandstand, inviting Bengaluru to pause during its morning walk and stay for a performance.
The free Cubbon Park Rajyotsava busking session will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, bringing the celebration into one of the city’s best-loved public spaces. The artist line-up will be revealed during the event, leaving visitors to discover the performers as the morning unfolds.
Cubbon Park Rajyotsava Busking: A Morning of Live Music
Presented through The Music Scene, UnboxingBLR’s busking initiative, the Rajyotsava gathering builds on a straightforward idea: live music can become part of everyday city life. A performance encountered during a walk offers a different kind of connection from a ticketed concert, allowing people to stop, listen and share a moment with those around them.
Described by UnboxingBLR as Bengaluru’s first formally recognised busking programme, The Music Scene gives original and independent musicians a free, structured and non-commercial platform to perform in public spaces. Its focus is on opening up opportunities for emerging artists while making live performance more accessible to the city’s residents.

The Music Scene: A Platform for Independent Musicians
The programme launched on July 24, 2026, at One Sobha on Church Street. Its regular sessions take place every Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m., with each evening featuring between five and 10 artists. Performers are given up to 20 minutes to present their original work, creating space for audiences to encounter several musical voices in a single visit.

A direct tipping system is central to the programme’s approach. Audiences can support performers through QR- and UPI-enabled payments, with the entire amount going to the artists and no commission retained by the platform. For listeners who discover a musician they connect with, it provides an immediate way to support their work.

Artist applications are evaluated anonymously using a combination of factors, including musical quality, originality, the ability to sustain a live set and the performance’s connection with Bengaluru audiences. The process is intended to give musicians a more democratic route to a public stage, with attention placed on the work they bring to it.

Backed by chief patron Hari Menon, founder of BigBasket, The Music Scene is conceived as a continuing cultural programme. Its ambition extends beyond individual performances to establishing a dependable place for independent music within Bengaluru’s public life. The Cubbon Park session brings that idea into the Rajyotsava celebrations, offering a morning where a city occasion and an everyday outing can meet.

UnboxingBLR’s Work Across Culture and City Life
The initiative is part of UnboxingBLR’s wider work across culture, content and city-building. Founded in 2023 by Prashanth Prakash and Malini Goyal, the Bengaluru-focused not-for-profit platform brings together communities, institutions and other stakeholders to develop projects connected to the city’s identity and future.
Its programmes include BLR Hubba, a city-wide celebration of art and culture, and the Namma Bengaluru Challenge, an accelerator supporting startups and changemakers addressing urban challenges. UnboxingBLR also produces the WeAreCity annual data report, examining India’s eight leading cities through multiple dimensions, and Code to Culture, a podcast featuring voices and stories from Bengaluru.

Other projects include Bloom Avenue, a year-round flower corridor on SM Krishna Road. In partnership with the Department of IT/BT/DOE, UnboxingBLR is also developing the Museum of Innovation, Startup and Technology, or MIST, in Bengaluru, described by the platform as India’s first museum of its kind.
For visitors to Cubbon Park this Sunday, however, the invitation is simple: bring your usual walking plans and leave a little time for music. With no entry fee and the performers to be discovered on the day, the Rajyotsava session offers an easy way to make live culture part of the morning.
